ACTION! CIFF announces 2010 line-up, officially kicking off ticket sales for over 280 films through new online platform at CalgaryFilm.com


August 27, 2010.  More than 60,000 tickets to over 280 screenings are on sale now, inciting thousands of Calgary International Film Festival-goers to secure their seats before they're gone.

Tickets to CIFF 2010's films became available as of Friday, August 27, and for the first time ever, Festival patrons have the option to pre-purchase tickets online through CIFF's fully automated buying system, print them from home, and forget worrying about standing in line or disappointment of a sell-out.

In addition, Film Fest fans have until September 9 to take advantage of early bird discount ticket bundles in packs of 5, 10 or 20, finding all the pricing info they could possibly need at www.calgaryfilm.com/2010/ticket-prices.

 

And without further ado, we bring you the illustrious list of films screening at CIFF 2010...

Tens of thousands of film lovers, movie makers and industry insiders from across the world will be checking out CalgaryFilm.com today, as this year’s line-up of groundbreaking films set to screen at CIFF goes live.

But before we send you off to peruse all the highlights, allow us to tell you the 15 spectacular series CIFF is presenting this year:

• Late Shows – Containing the most challenging, over-the-top films in the festival, taking place in the darkest hours, filled with horror, sci-fi, fantasy and action, plus some comedic blends of all the above

• Short Films – Featured in any dimension, style and genre in 40 minutes or less, they never outstay their welcome. But make no mistake—making a noteworthy short film is far from easy

• Global Film – Endeavouring to give audiences a small peek into an enormous and varied catalogue of stories, characters and ethnicities that refuse to conform to the standards of the Hollywood template

• Headliners - CIFF's Headliners are the cream of the crop, the newest and most-discussed films on the festival circuit; red carpet must-sees that are vying for autumn attention and early Oscar buzz

• Music On Film - An all-access pass into the exciting lives of some of the most revered figures in pop culture, with personalities as dynamic, charismatic and entertaining as you'd expect

• Canadian Cinema - Rural communities. Coming of age stories. Depression. Just some of the stereotypes associated with Canadian cinema, and like most stereotypes, they're only true until they aren't

• Documentary - Witness some of the world’s most amazing, authentic and powerful stories told on the big screen, and the most compelling films on the festival circuit today

• Mavericks: YYC - Youth by Youth Cinema - A 57-minute presentation of work from the finest up-and-coming filmmaking youth, with awards up for grabs that include Young Renegade, Best Animated/Documentary Short, Best Live Action and People's Choice

• Green Screen - An important look at the most pressing environmental issues facing our planet today, through lenses from near and far

• Hump Night - CIFF's risque side promises to get you through the remainder of the week, featuring films that explore love, lust, sex and relationships

• Mavericks Competition - Having launched Mavericks with a $25,000 bang in 2009, CIFF vows to not only continue its international competition for emerging filmmakers, but to make Mavericks a meaningful experience for every storyteller in the region

• Films 4 Families - The smell of buttery popcorn, the dimming lights, the exciting trailers and the promise of escape into another world... flash back to your childhood, and bring the kids along for the ride

• Beyond Borders - CIFF's sculptural installation and public film exhibition Beyond Borders: Here & There aims to illustrate the connective stories between Canadian immigrants from developing nations, as well as social change, economic hardship and gender equality

• American Independent - Committed to spotlighting emerging filmmakers who display a unique style of filmmaking, creative storytelling and impressive cinematography

• Mavericks: Pioneers - Paving the way to a bigger, broader definition of the festival's signature Mavericks program, the Pioneers series embodies the renegade spirit of CIFF
